Point at Silver Beach (iPhone)
St. Joseph holds an annual Venetian Festival celebration this time of year. I’d never heard of one, but it’s a pretty big deal for a small town like this.
We visited yesterday for a short time. The live music and fireworks were set for later in the evening, so we checked out the craft fair and enjoyed the requisite greasy carnival food.
A side effect of the festivities is that a large chunk of town and most access to the beaches is blocked to casual traffic all weekend. The only way past the blockade is through the festval, so we made our way down to Silver Beach.
There were crowds, but nothing like what I’m used to. The skies were blue, fluffy clouds plentiful, and a sand castle-building competition was underway. It was a pleasant scene, and quite different from the So Cal version.
The sculpture is “Point” by Mike Helbing.
